BREAK BULK AND PROJECT CARGO

With the rise in the oil and gas and mining activities in Cameroon and Africa as a whole, Gespros has a long history of working with a wide range of stakeholders in the project cargo, heavy lift, semi-submersible and break bulk sectors.

As one of the most pronounce supplier of a number of support services to the extractive industries in Cameroon and Africa, Gespros fully understands the crucial role that project cargo plays in the region’s infrastructure development.

While many ports and terminals in the developed world are geared up to support the discharge of larger and heavier project cargo units, West Africa’s ports on occasion require additional planning and consideration before project cargo can be discharged. As a result, we offer strong commercial and operational support to operators doing business in the region, specifically:

  • Provision of accurate pro forma DA information for vessel call, and delivery costs to site of cargo if required.
  • Supply of accurate and reliable port information for heavy lift/semi sub vessels requiring safe and deep locations for float-off and discharge.
  • Up to date information on depths alongside, channel and berthing restrictions etc.
  • Liaison with carrier or charterer’s port captains for advance planning of vessel operations.
  • Introduction to the relevant port authority in West Africa where a special case merits additional assistance and planning.
  • Objective advice on best port choice given hinterland destination of some project cargo.
  • Procurement of local support such as mobile cranes, barges, launches, welders and engineers etc to support and facilitate the discharge operation.
  • Advice on any obstacles, local customs or practices etc which may affect the port operation.
